Santa Claus Audit
What’s that, you say? You don’t believe in Santa Claus?
Well, do you believe in a secure and comfortable retirement? Or being able to help your children get a college education? Or the simple peace-of-mind that comes from being able to pay your credit card in full every month?
These goals are probably on just about everyone’s list this season, and even if Santa can’t exactly deliver in time for the holidays, he can nevertheless give us pointers as to what we must do – and must not do – to get closer to our dreams. Reputedly, he has traveled widely and has extensive experience observing people’s behaviors. He knows when we've been bad or good – whether it has to do with sharing our toys, or how we handle our money.
So this holiday season, Santa, with the help of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board), is publishing the Santa Claus Audit to help you determine whether you've been naughty or nice, financially speaking, this year. Be honest as you go through the audit – no one but Santa is checking the list (in fact, he does this twice)! Being an incredibly generous and jolly old man, he doesn't want to put you on the naughty list unless you really deserve it. And also, the recent outcry against fossil-based fuels means he has been cutting down on coal.
But should you find yourself tipping more toward the naughty than the nice, you may need to get to work on those New Year’s resolutions we all make once Santa has come and gone. Better still, and far more likely to help you keep those resolutions, is a visit with a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, who can help you set both short and long term financial goals, and keep you on track toward achieving them.
Happy Holidays to all from CFP Board!
